"All the way there is freedom, equality and fraternity, which is the translated title, and all the way this is musical communication at a very high level. The two saxophonists and clarinettists work together in a brilliant way, exchanging ideas and input as the best "brainstorm" one could wish for. And Kneer and Marien are constantly pushing their ideas and helping to make this an extremely nice hour. This has become a brilliant recording... and we get to hear four extremely talented, exciting and creative musicians." Jan Granlie (Salt Peanuts)

Meinrad Kneer and Tobias Klein founded the quartet Dalgoo in 1998. Based in Amsterdam at that time, the ensemble worked continuously for seven years, releasing two albums and touring in Russia and Poland among other places. The founding members Kneer, Klein and Lothar Ohlmeier resumed working in 2016 after recruiting drummer Christian Marien. The whole ensemble except for Klein is now based in Berlin.
Dalgoo tells stories through its music, using narrative techniques from literature, cinema and theatre to structure its compositions and improvisations. Flashbacks, cuts, morphing images, conversations and inner monologues are translated into sound, rhythms and melodies. Dalgoo takes on the challenge to move freely in these structures. In performance, a story can travel a new course, a joke can receive a different punch line, and the moral of the story will always surprise both the musicians and audience. Dalgoo plays original compositions. Using refined instrumental techniques and a reed instrument arsenal including two bass clarinets, the band has developed a richness of sound colors and textures that is very unusual for a quartet.
